Dispatch: Two injured in Clermont County mining accident - WCPO

BATAVIA, Ohio — A Clermont County mining operation reported two workers were injured on the job Wednesday afternoon, according to county dispatch supervisor Mark Henriques.

Henriques said a 911 caller reported injuries at Arch Materials, a rural quarrying operation that provides crushed limestone to area construction projects. Parts of the quarry are underground, according to Arch’s official website.

The caller said people were calling for help from inside the mine, according to Henriques.

Scanner traffic from two medical helicopters sent to the scene provided more details. According to one account, the workers had been in a mining cage over a mile underground when a boulder fell on top of them, damaging the cage. Personnel in the other helicopter described the incident as "a fall into some kind of a gravel pit."

Both reported victims complaining of back and neck pain.
