Fans of closing the mine
will also nix housing

Stopping mining at Lehigh cement plant and quarry is a bad idea. I’ve lived in Cupertino for a long time and remember ash falling before the plant installed pollution controls.

The Bay Area is a large consumer of cement and making it where it is used is both greener and less costly. The rock at the query is some of the best for making cement meaning that less energy is needed. There is a lot of money invested in the infrastructure at Lehigh and more will need to be reinvested for a new mine.

Importing cement from outside the region means more truck traffic on our already clogged highways.

I predict that the same people who want to kill this business will also not allow much-needed housing to be built on the land once the mine closes. They don’t care about what’s best for society, just themselves.
